How to pursue a Management Degree while working without burning out?
Many of us consider the idea of going back to studying while working to be an extremely daunting task. We agree! Employed as a full-time executive and studying at the same time requires a tremendous amount of dedication, will-power to stay focused and most importantly – PLANNING! While some may not even consider juggling between work and higher education, a massive group of students are expected to maintain a balance between the two mostly because of the capital investment that is required to complete their study.
On the bright side, students who study and work part-time eventually gain a lot of confidence and handle tasks under pressure with a lot of patience and calmness. However, the program in itself can certainly take a mental toll on you! To help you juggle both these important priorities of your lives, we are here to give you four essential tips that can make your journey less bumpy and more enjoyable.
- Create and follow a plan
At the start of your semester, collate all your syllabus, course material and record the submission dates. Make sure you are completely aware of all the details and then prioritize your work schedule accordingly. Ensure that your work and study schedule do not overlap. Keeping a monthly planner as it will always keep you ahead of time and you will be able to easily adjust to any immediate assessment submissions or company meetings.
- Be productive
As a juggler between work and study, you need to use your time constructively. This way, you will feel more balanced vacillating between the roles of a student and an employee. For instance, on some days, you could study while commuting or take some time off your break and go through your coursework. Make sure to do everything in moderation. Over-working or over-studying would only deteriorate both your mental and physical health.
- Do not overburden yourself
Having a busy work and study schedule can certainly stress one out. Hence, if you feel under pressure, it is necessary to indulge in activities that can be effective stress-busters. If you enjoy exercising, then make sure to do some fitness routines at least 3-4 times a week. You could also listen to some soothing music or document your feelings in a journal. These are some activities that can reduce stress and make you feel more centred.
- Make technology your best friend
You would know how essential class notes are. Instead of jotting down every point, make technology your pal and simply record the lecture. This way, you wouldn’t miss even the slightest detail and can pay complete attention to the lectures. In fact, there are numerous study apps that can help you with class, seminars and even exams.
