Want to Work & Study Together? Here’s How!
Sometimes in life, there are situations that give us unexpected options. One of these is placement study, where you choose to start a work-life alongside your education. Such a path has its advantages and disadvantages, which is why it’s important to analyse if this is right for you. So look no further, we are here to help!
Studying and working at the same time needs dedication, commitment and a lot of multitasking. Nowadays, the “work and study” habit is becoming more and more popular among students. Some do it as a passion to know the world out there while others do it as a way of funding their education and a learning process to be independent. Either way, you need to consider a few points when you think about placement study.
Let’s look at the good side of it!
- Work Experience: Many who choose placement study do it for the experience. This contributes to a huge bonus on your resume, as employers prefer candidates with work experience rather than a complete fresher.
- Earning & Funding: For those who are unable to afford tuition fees for their education they can opt for a placement that will provide them with some savings that could perhaps be used in the later stages.
- Knowing the World Out There: It is important to know that the corporate world is completely different from the student world. Students can get a taste of the corporate industry whilst studying. This will be highly beneficial as they will already come under an experienced workforce.
- Time Management Skills: No matter what job position you apply for time management is the topmost priority for any employer. There’s no better way to achieve this other than placement study, as you learn to multitask and balance work and study together.
So now that you know the advantages of a placement study, how do you manage to hold them together? Here are some pointers to keep you going:
Plan Out & Organise
Nothing goes smoothly without a plan, it’s the key to doing all things perfect. Keep a note of your study schedule and your work schedule side by side. See what areas of the day are the most stressed and most relaxed. Let’s change it up a bit and move them to a more balanced schedule. The best blend would be to keep more study hours when work is less and more work where there’s not much study to do. This is where you organise your day and make it realistic with your potential.
Keep Goals and Outcomes
When you know what you have to achieve and have your eyes on the target, the path to your success is much easier. Setting achievable goals that have practical outcomes can ensure that you keep a steady growth in your job, as well as in your education and assignments. If you see that you are able to attain the expected results, then you are on the right path. However, if you see yourself struggling to reach those outcomes, then this is a sign to work on an alternative method to get you back on track. You will only know what’s best when you start somewhere.
Make Time For Yourself!
Surely you’ve heard the famous saying, “All Work and No Play, Makes Jack a Dull Boy”. This applies to every aspect of our lives. The greatest balance is to keep work, study and free time in different boxes. If you try mixing everything up, you may end up burdening yourself and getting stressed in the end. This isn’t healthy for anyone, as you end up doing so much, but achieving so little. Instead, keep some time for your studies, then keep some time for you to relax or play. Once you’re refreshed, you can go on to work and keep your focus on that alone. There’s never a hard and fast rule to organising your time, so go ahead and explore your strengths!
Seek Help Where Needed
Never be too ashamed to ask for guidance or assistance when you need them the most. At times, these are the best choices to make, as you can ease out your schedule if it gets out of hand. If you are unable to dedicate enough time to study, ask your faculty for some flexibility. The same goes for work. Life happens and we never know when urgent affairs may cause chaos. So go out there and ask, if the answers are not what you expect, there’s always a way to manoeuvre.
So now you are well aware of how you can work and study together. You are prepared to start this journey and soar high. Know that you are not alone on this path, for many others are with you, having their own ways of going about. All you need to know is, at the end of the day, you must feel content with all that you have done. The first few steps may be shaky and stressful, but as you move forward, you will learn to dodge all obstacles that come your way. Trust the process, for smooth seas do not make skilful sailors!
